The street

Why World's End?

In Irish the street was Drom Deiridh. The Danes are said to have made that Endilworth, and the English made it World's End.

That is how a Kinsale fisherman told it in the 1930s, when schoolchildren across Ireland were sent out to write down the stories of their own towns. His account is now held in the National Folklore Collection.

The street runs along the waterfront, a short walk from the centre of town.

In my younger days, I was under the impression that it led to the End of the World and that anyone travelling too far on it would fall off the edge of the world.
